Oh my God! Will you look at your pants!
You've sprung a leak! So, what's a girl to do? When you first
start having periods they are often irregular, so there may be a
few times when you get caught by surprise. Hello! Can you say
pop quiz? Knowing how to handle these situations ahead of time
can help prevent embarrassment. And don't worry if it seems like
you're bleeding heavily in the beginning, this is a-okay. Most women
experience a heavier flow the first couple of days and then it tapers
off.
If not, ask your school nurse or your doctor.
If you get your period at school, you're in luck - the school nurse
will have a supply
of pads on hand for you to use. If you're in class and you think you're
bleeding, ask your teacher
to be excused and go to the bathroom and check things out. There may
be a machine in there - so keep a little satchel full of change. If
not, try to use toilet paper or paper towel in the meantime. But,
you should keep a supply of pads or tampons in your locker or in your
school bag just in case.
You're ready to face the world.
